Description

Rectangular piece of brown fabric, stitched together at the narrowed ends. One edge is decorated with rectangular shaped, round bone pendants, incised with geometric designs in brown.

History Of Use

Worn diagonally across the upper body by women with small children. The bone pendants hang down on the front half, the child is supported against the hip.

Narrative

The collector purchased this from Juan Rodriguez P., proprietor of The Jungle Shop, in Lima on May 27, 1982. It was said to have been made by the Campa people living on the Rio Cenapa in Peru. The Campa live primarily in the eastern foothills of the Peruvian Andes, although a small number live in Brazil.
