Loom Item Number: Sf1125 a from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Backstrap loom with belt in the process of being woven. Consists of plant fibre rope wrapped with plastic at warp end, multi-coloured over-twisted synthetic and cotton thread warp, blue and yellow thread heddles; partially woven belt and a multi-strand rope for a waist tie. The belt has a repeated triangular design.
Used as a backstrap loom where the unwoven end is tied to a fixed object and the other end, the woven part, is rolled up to put it in a convenient working position and then tied around the weaver's body.
Bought from one of the indigenous workers at the place where the Frame was staying. The worker's wife was making a belt.
