Description

Backstrap loom with belt in the process of being woven. Consists of plant fibre rope wrapped with plastic at warp end, multi-coloured over-twisted synthetic and cotton thread warp, blue and yellow thread heddles; partially woven belt and a multi-strand rope for a waist tie. The belt has a repeated triangular design.

History Of Use

Used as a backstrap loom where the unwoven end is tied to a fixed object and the other end, the woven part, is rolled up to put it in a convenient working position and then tied around the weaver's body.

Narrative

Bought from one of the indigenous workers at the place where the Frame was staying. The worker's wife was making a belt.
