Stool Item Number: 1245/1 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Wooden stool with four legs. Stool seat is flat and curves upwards at the ends. The ends are rounded. On the underside of the rounded ends and along the sides of the outside of the stool's seat, there are carved and painted designs of faces and wolves. The legs to the stool are carved and painted totem pole-like protrusions and are attached to the stool flaring slightly outwards. They are secured to the stool by a small piece of wood and have been nailed into place.

Narrative

Alan Pierce said he acquired the stool in 1968, and that the carver was Webster Thompson and the previous owner said he got it in the 1920s. However Thompson was born in 1927, so it seems likely the stool dates to the 1950s?
