Petroglyph Rubbing Item Number: 2003-52/BR30 from the The Burke: University of Washington

Description

Petroglyph rubbing on long fiber tissue paper with black ink. K. Meyers 8/5/2003 From "Descriptive Catalogue of Petroglyph Prints for the University of Washington, from The Dalles Dam Resevoir, 1956." by Mark Hedden, located in the Archaeology Archive: Various intersecting lineur (sic) patterns. On one side a bird head is apparent, faced to the right, on a long stem with six offshoots, two of which on either side, form parallel diagonals heading up. The remaining two slope diagonally downward, on either side, from common point on stem. (Compare this with Br 63). "Bird" is partly intersected by "ladder" pattern running horizontally. Opposite end of ladder has various intersecting lines, with three pronged terminations suggesting hands, bird claws or , perhaps, standing phallic figures.
