Coin-Like Charm Item Number: Edz4218 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Round charm, square hole in centre, inner and outer rims on both sides, four Chinese characters on obverse, two Chinese characters on reverse.

History Of Use

A coin-like charm, which could have circulated (Larson, David). Minted as part of a set (incomplete, some provinces missing, some duplicate), probably to commemorate important events or festivals such as New Year or the beginning of a new reign. In the set each coin represented a province (analogous to the Canadian millennium quarters). Each obverse has a phrase on the imperial cosmology, social mobility, or personal enhancement. The reverse has a province name (Li, Min).
