Description

Canoe-shaped dish, painted light green on rims and ends and white on sides, with whale design on both sides. Whale painted in colours of white, blue, green, orange, yellow, red and black.

History Of Use

Used for display in announcing the whale feast.

Narrative

Said to have been made by the grandfather of Chief Anthony John, of Queen's Cove. Apparently John married a woman from Rivers Inlet, who had brought the design and rights with her from there.
