Description

Knife with long blade and highly decorated scabbard. The blade has carved designs near tip and near handle. Bone handle has inter-woven wires wound around lower part and incised designs covering upper part. Tufts of pink, dark brown and off-white hair are attached at protrusions of handle. Blade has blackened throughout all non-sharpened areas. Part b is a wooden scabbard with four large areas of inlaid bone carving covering much of front, attached by bent metal pins. The bone carving closest to top has a fang-like protrusion sticking sharply out. Between the carvings are many tufts of red, black and white hair and two beadwork bands. The sides are held together with grass bands. At back is a thin pod-like sheath, attached by a grass band and by the woven handle protruding through an opening in the sheath. Dark brown pitch(?) is rubbed over the edges and undecorated areas of the front of the scabbard.
