Description

Square shaped, red cotton shawl made of two panels sewn together in the middle with yellow and red checkered stitching. The textile is detailed with solid yellow vertical stripes.

Narrative

This set of textiles from Ixtahuacan (Sa440-448) was commissioned in the community in 2001 and collected in 2002. The women who took responsibility for making the clothing normally weave together as a small cooperative. All except one are widows who weave to support their families. All the weavers are related to Dona Maria Ordonez Ortiz.
