Description

Man’s red shirt with multi-coloured vertical stripes, a long collar and sleeves. Arms have bands of a multi-coloured, patterned, embroidered bands that end in a gathering and an additional piece of fabric at the wrists. The head opening has orange and blue embroidery in the front. The long added-on collar has orange and blue stitching along the ends and bottom. The sleeves are open in the armpit for 8.5 to 9 cm. The rest of the sleeve length as well as the opening at the wrist is stitched in orange and blue. The lower back bottom edge is fringed. The stripes are in black, yellow, blue, green, pink and white.

Narrative

Don Jose Garcia Martin and his wife Francisca Diaz Godinez organized the production of the clothing from San Juan Atitan in this collection (accession 2551). They apportioned the work among family members and others known for their skills in the community.
