OBJECT IS ILLUSTRATED ON P. 8 ("B") OF DAVID IVES BUSHNELL, "DRAWINGS BY GEORGE GIBBS IN THE FAR NORTHWEST, 1849-1851," SMITHSONIAN MISCELLANEOUS COLLECTIONS 97.8 (1938). - STEVEN L. GRAFE 1997. Bushnell identifies club as cedar and indicates it was collected by George Gibbs probably in 1850 or 1851 near the mouth of the Columbia River.Note that club 651 is mentioned as being used in an exhibit in Berlin in 1880 on p. 52 of USNM Bulletin No. 18. It is described there as a Northwest coast salmon club.
