The shape of this well-used canoe paddle is typical for the Tsimshian region on the coast of British Columbia. Its broken tip may have resulted from pushing against rocks during beach landings. Painted clan crest designs cover the blade. Similar paddles, ornamented with tufts of hair, are carried by potlatch dancers.
