Description

Square shawl made of two panels with selvage ends attached by multi-coloured, checkered stitching. Running the opposite way in the center is a patch of brocaded floral and diamond design in blue, red, green, purple and pink. The fringed end has patterned stitching above it. The shawl has a repeating stripe design in blue, purple, black, green and white on a red ground.

Narrative

Don Jose Garcia Martin and his wife Francisca Diaz Godinez organized the production of the clothing from San Juan Atitan in this collection (accession 2551). They apportioned the work among family members and others known for their skills in the community.
