This object could be brought out at certain times as at.oow (clan property), but was not necessarily always used as at.oow. The designs on this object do not necessarily reflect clan affiliations, as that trend occurred later on. People often carved their own materials to designate they created them.Listed on page 45 in "The Exhibits of the Smithsonian Institution at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, California, 1915", in section "Arts of the Northwest Coast Tribes (Tools)".
