Description

Solid wood carving of a boat with a horse and rider facing forward on the deck. The rider is carrying a sword (glued into his right hand) and has red lips and pencil darkened mustache, eyes and eyebrows. The horse also has darkened eyes and a carved harness. "Sendas 2000" is carved into one side. "Para A Frente Eque O Caminho Cavaleiro" is carved along the other side. Square notched portholes are carved all the way around. A railing for the deck has been made from bent pieces of thin branches, glued into holes.

Represts King Afonso Henriques, who united Portugal in the 12th century.

Narrative

Field collected in Portugal from the 'Santos Oficios' craft shop in Lisbon. The inscription "Para A Frente Eque O Caminho Cavaleiro" translates as "the way ahead is the way to go”.
