Description

Bracelet that is beaded on both inside and outside. On one side there are black and red beads in a geometric triangular pattern on a ground of light blue beads. The inside repeating pattern is of two rows of green stripes and one row of white stripes. There is one row of red beads.

History Of Use

Bracelets were sometimes used to identify which clan a person belonged to; possible this bracelet was used for that.

Iconographic Meaning

The meaning of coloured beads depends on the area and clan, but in general, red is usually symbolizes warriors and bravery.

Made in a Maasai village by the wife of K'soi, the village headman.
