Unmodified Shell Item Number: EXU12G0041100 from the The Burke: University of Washington

Description

This shell was loaned to Phoebe Anderson from 12/8/2005 until 8/11/2009 for faunal analysis. Samples were taken from the 1st, 4th, 8th, and 12th buckets to perform taxonomic and size analyses. Additionally, five shells per level, preferably Protothaca staminea (common littleneck clam), underwent destructive sampling in order to analyze seasonality of occupation and to reconstruct the past environment of the Pacific Northwest. Anderson's analysis is described fully in her dissertation, A Gendered Model of Prehistoric Resource Depression: A Case Study on the Northwest Coast (2009), and full analysis sheets are attached to this record. AKT 10/20/09 Two samples of P. staminea from this level were prepared and submitted for isotope analysis by Phoebe Anderson (2009). The results of this analysis may be found on Anderson's final isotope database under the Analysis numbers 20315, 20316, or 20317 (attached). No distinction was made during the analysis which of the two samples or if both of the samples were being used, so the analysis numbers may refer to either one of these samples. The remainder and thick section of the used samples have been tagged as such and returned to their appropiate level bag. K. Lutz 1/11/2010.
