Description

Two wooden (kokeshi) dolls with round moveable heads. Part a has black painted hair. The top portion of the body is black and brown. The mid-section is wood with black, brown and red leaf designs and the bottom is black. Part b has black painted hair, and the top portion of the body is wood. The rest of the body is decorated with brown, gold, white, and red striped designs.

History Of Use

Kokeshi are simple wooden Japanese dolls crafted as toys for children. Originally from the northeastern region of Japan, they are handmade from wood, having a simple, round trunk and head, without arms or legs. They have been in use for at least 150 years.
