Description

Dark-brown portrait mask with oversized hooked nose and long protruding chin. Cut-out eye slits, wide cut-out mouth with two teeth on upper mouth, exaggerated cheek bones and carved groove lines on either side of the mask's forehead. One small hole on either side of the mask parallel to the top of the nose.

History Of Use

Viejo, Old People mask from Patzcuaro. Used in Old Man Dances (or Tare-Uarariecha in Purepecha) in which the protagonists, represented with near toothless masks, stagger around on walking sticks.
