Basket Item Number: SN1998:B4 from the Sto:lo Research & Resource Management Centre

Description

large; ribbed basket with rim handles

Provenance

Found along the beach of the Fraser River and donated to the Sto:lo Nation in the fall of 1996. Research found that it is a heavy-duty field work basket, sometimes called a 'potato basket' made for two people to carry or drag along the fields. It's style was introduced to eastern North America by Europe where the baskets were typically made from oak, ash or willow.
