Lion figure covered with shells of various colours and having a wire tail and red fibre whiskers, all fastened with heavy yellow adhesive. Interior of ears and mouth are painted red. Sitting on a pedestal made of various shells.

Narrative

Burnett listed this piece as coming from Sumatra, Indonesia. But there appear to be very similar shell pieces that were made in England, purporting to be from the 18th century?

Appears to depict a Chinese temple lion-dog.
