Description

Close-fitting, shoulder-length child’s hood made of red cotton textile which is heavily embroidered with medallions, geometric designs, mirrorwork and linear border motifs, worked in green, yellow, off-white, blue and black cotton and silk thread. A rectangular panel of embroidered cotton textile hangs loosely to the shoulders at the sides and back. Mirrors, alternating with blocks of interlacing stitch, form a border around the edges of this panel; a square multicoloured medallion and two multicoloured circular medallions are embroidered at the centre back. The crown is embroidered with floral motifs worked in silk floss, and there is a short fringe of green, white and blue glass beads at the forehead. Two short strands of twisted fibre are attached at the front edge, over the temples.
