Description

Rectangular quilted panel. The front has parallel stripes in purple, yellow, red, green and pink. Among the stripes are red woven designs of peony, swastika, bat, floral motifs and Chinese characters. At one end is a wide dark blue band with red edging. The back is lined with light pink.

History Of Use

Such panels can form the centre top panel of a Korean quilt. The quilt has a white cover which extends over the bottom and around the sides, with the quilted panel set into the centre.

Specific Techniques

The rows of quilting stitches are machine-sewn, but there is also hand sewing (overcast stitch) on the panel
