Description

Spade-shaped, brown wooden bellows with a tan-coloured suede bag affixed with metal rivets and a conical metal nozzle. On the bottom, two circular holes have been bored through the centre and the letters "M M" inscribed in red paint.

Narrative

Said to have been purchased from Yupik people on St. Lawrence Island by Paul Tovey. Tovey had been living there, working as a teacher in a government school at Gambell, a village on the northwestern tip of the island.
