Description
Round beaded pouch that tapers slightly at the opening. Opening has scalloped skin flap and two skin drawstrings. Pouch is decorated with purple, red, and orange beads in the shape of a flower on a white beaded background. There are evenly-spaced rectangular-shaped sections of purple beads around the perimeter of the piece on the front. On the side, there are alternating black, and clear coloured beads around the perimeter. There is a vertical line of beaded blue, yellow, red, purple, and pink section running down the centre of the back of the pouch. On either side of the lone, there is a split leaf-like orange, red, and blue beaded pattern.
Narrative
The documentation from the Sisters of Saint Ann Museum says the pouch was acquired in 1913. Provenance unknown; thought to possibly be from Canada?
Specific Techniques
Pouch is made of four pieces of worked skin- front, back, narrow band for a side piece and top flap. Beading done in an "overlay spot stitch" and "lazy man stitch."
