Narrative

In 2003 the Spirit Wrestler Gallery in Vancouver hosted “Kiwa - Pacific Connections”, a large contemporary exhibition of Maori art. Concurrently, they held a “Welcoming Exhibition” by eight Northwest Coast artists. This sculpture was made for the exhibition. The etched paddle images are inspired by both Coast Salish and Maori design elements. The donor, Mr. Henderson, purchased the sculpture from the exhibition on opening night in order to offer it as a donation to the Museum of Anthropology.
