Drawing Item Number: 2811/8 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Laminated children's drawing consisting of a piece of beige legal paper mounted on a piece of blue construction paper. There is a rectangular piece of white paper on the back carrying an inscription in Spanish. On the front, a blue band crosses the upper part of the composition, from the upper left to the lower right, representing a river. Above the river are two human figures, a multicoloured plant, and a helicopter that has been coloured blue, brown, and turquoise. Three brown circles and the inscription "Miguel Hernandes 13" have been added directly below the river. A brown path leads down from the river to a building. There is a round, brown and orange object to the left of the building and a round orange object to the right of the building. The object on the left appears to be a soccerball. The bottom third of the composition consists of a human figure and two horizontal, undulating orange lines representing fire. A narrow strip of word-processed text has been taped to the front, at the bottom of the page, and it reads "We had to sleep in the mountains because the soldiers burned the places where we used to live." This is a translation of the ink inscription on white paper that has been affixed to the back of the blue paper.
