Description

Red silk sari, machine printed(?), decorated over-all with a repeated, small, black stylized floral motif. A border consisting of three rows of small paisley motifs on all four edges of the sari. Selvages along the long edges; the short edges are hemmed by hand.

Specific Techniques

The design on this sari is identical at both ends, whereas a sari traditionally has one end undecorated.

Narrative

Mrs. Steeds collected this piece while on a visit to India in the 1970s.
