Bobbin Threader Item Number: 1350/1 a-f from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Brown wooden bobbin winder or threader resembles a small tabletop spinning wheel. The wheel, which is mounted on the right hand side of an oblong box, is connected with twine (original missing) to a fitting mounted on the left hand side of the box; small handle mounted on the outside rim of the wheel. An arm with a detachable rotary device is attached on the left hand side and can be folded out of the way when not in use. There is a small storage drawer in the box.

Specific Techniques

To operate this device, one places the empty bobbin into a socket mounted on the fitting; the ball of thread is attached to the end of the bobbin, and the operator then turns the wheel by means of a small handle mounted near the rim. The turning of the wheel causes the bobbin to rotate while the operator guides the thread onto it.
