Description

Sculpture of a figure standing with the arms resting down the sides and bending at the elbows so that the hands are resting at the sides of the stomach. The partially oval rounded eyes are closed with the long thin nose extending from the high upraised brows. The mouth is prim. The hair is elaborately styled with incised lines. Around the neck, there is an orange and blue beaded necklace. The chest tapers into breasts with two vertical lines having diagonal grooves going down the centre of the chest. Two more horizontal lines having vertical grooves are around the front of the waist. The knees are slightly bent. On a circular base. Wood has been oiled and has now achieved the high sheen of a good, well cared for figure which characterises Baoule sculpture.
