Description

Flat round pendant with a cutout heart and a cutout Latin cross within the heart. Engraving on the pendant includes cones and pine needles. Zigzag engraving around the edge. There are two necklace holders at the top of the pendant. Necklace strung with blue and white beads. Maker’s mark on pendant.

History Of Use

The cross was the oldest form of trade silver, introduced by French missionaries to North America for presentation to converts. Crosses were later used as trade silver with no religious connotations.

Roulette engraving produces a uniform zigzag, an identifying feature of this technique, and is created by using a revolving disk with sharp teeth.
