Description

A shadow puppet fragment of a female head, outlining the face in profile, with red and black detailing. The forehead has a horizontal black band. The eye is outlined in black extending to the back of the head with a horizontal black line. The nose curls inward to create a nostril. The mouth is outlined with red. The white hair has a black bun at the back of the head. Behind the ears, there is a black section. The neck is split with a groove in the middle.

Narrative

In 1981 the donor wrote that she had found this group of shadow puppets in Chengdu (Sichuan, China) over 40 years earlier.
