Description

A hanging scroll painting of a landscape scene with mountains in the background and having houses, pine trees, and water forming the middle, and the foreground. Zig-zag water pattern flows from the high distant background into the foreground. One human figure is seen sailing in a junk in the middle ground. Predominant colours used are brown, green, and black. Four vertical lines of poetry are written in black on the upper right corner with one red seal and another red seal at the opposite corner. Dotted stroke technique. The painting has a cream-coloured border of patterned fabric. There is a semi-cylindrical rod at the top with a brown cord bound by metal wire and cream-coloured brown fabric with a dark blue ribbon. There is a cylindrical rod weight at the bottom covered with yellow, blue, and green patterned fabric.

History Of Use

Wall hanging. Said to be a Qing dynasty reproduction of a painting from the Ming dynasty.

Originally purchased from a dealer in Macao by Dr. Ping-ti Ho of the UBC Asian Studies Dept.
