Description
A light white-brown wooden carving with the lower part depicting Sisiutl while the upper extension depicts a seagull. The black eyes of the bird are surrounded by a dark green area with black brows above and a red lined beak. The body of the Sisiutl is painted with a red and black face.
History Of Use
Worn on the forehead during ceremonies as part of a headdress.
Iconographic Meaning
Sisiutl is indicated by horns on face. It was a double-headed serpent or lightning snake who assisted the War Spirit, Winalagalis.
