Killer Whales Item Number: 1311/1 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Silkscreen print shows a group of killer whales in the lower area of the image. Ten fins and several whale faces are visible. Waves are shown in the top area of print having a blue and black split u design with red lines and central dots. Image framed by a red border. Pencil inscription along the bottom edge reads 'MP 4 Killer Whales Cranmer 87'. The print is on long, horizontally rectangular, light brown paper.

Narrative

In the 1970's the artist created a series of non-figurative/abstract paintings on mahogany plywood. Four of the images - Killer Whale, River Monster, Canoe, and Ravens in Nest, were produced as serigraphs. Killer Whales is derived from a 1976 painting, shown in "Kesu': The Art and Life of Doug Cranmer" on page 94.
