Description

Beaded band of hide with geometric diamond pattern from one end to the other in pink, blue, green, red, green, and pink on a white background. Each end has eight tassels consisting of blue bead clusters along the edge with white bead clusters at the ends, except for one which is blue.

Narrative

An apron from the ROM made with the same beads, same colours and design is catalogued as Gogo. Margret Carey's book, East and South African Beadwork (pp. 28/29: fig. 21), shows a belt with a very similar design, catalogued as Yao. The book Art and Ambiguity, figs 739 to 742 show similar belts from Tanzania.
