Description

Standing female figure with the back visible and the face turned to the left side. Has upswept hairdo with a comb, pins, and ribbon. Wearing wing-shaped light yellow material from the shoulders to the waist. Striped material from the waist to the back of the knees. Flowing side panels have a light orange floral design on a plain background. The sleeve is plain with only the figure's left sleeve visible. Two black swords are at the left back hip. Wearing sandals. In the lower right corner is a row of written characters.

Narrative

The print is signed 豐廣画 (Toyohiro ga). The print is not the final version, but shows an early stage of the woodblock printing process. The finalized print is a multi-coloured nishiki-e (-for example, see prints from the same series in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, #21.8447-60).
