Description

Pink damask robe with short standing collar, wide sleeves, side slits and side opening with frog closures and metal buttons. The damask is woven containing floral, circle and butterfly motifs. The collar, side opening and hem have borders with crane, bat, butterfly and floral motifs in green, purple and white on blue ground with floral and orange trim. The sleeves have borders with birds in a floral scene on green ground. The inside is unlined.

Cultural Context

Informal dress, nu ta kua, of a Han woman during the Ch'ing Dynasty. It looks like nu wai kua but shorter.
