Spear Item Number: Ih206 from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Red- brown wood spear, round cross-section, with the shaft tapered to the butt, and carved of a single piece of wood. Conical point is smooth to 16.5 cm. from the tip with the remaining 67 cm. of the point carved with twenty-three sets of seven barbs all around.
Spears were used as weapons in warfare, which traditionally occupied an important place in Fijian culture. Spears were also used in ceremonial dancing.
Said to have been purchased by Mr. Bond from A.M. Brodziak, Ltd., in Fiji.
