Description

Deep purple kimono with designs on the lower front in the style of Iro tomesode (色留袖). The neck and centre opening are edged with a deep purple band. The sleeves are short with hanging panels and an opening under the arms. There are white crests on the upper front, back and back of both sleeves. The designs on the lower front have pine tree, floral and screen motifs in green, blue, cream, white and orange. It has five family crests or kamon (家紋) in the shape of ivy leaf known as tsuta (蔦). The bottom hem is padded with cotton. The upper lining is cream silk.

History Of Use

Iro tomesode (色留袖, coloured tomesode), a style of formal kimono. Tomesode has short sleeves and patterns below the waist line, usually on the lower part of the garment, and has family crests or kamon (家紋). Worn by married and unmarried women on formal occasions such as weddings.
