Description

Ceremonial mask with slightly protruding round eyes, extended tongue, large hooked nose, bordered with four similar faces. Painted in colours of black, red, yellow, green, and blue. Cedar bark and feather fringe behind head.

Narrative

According to E. Meade, he purchased masks A8546-47 from the wife of Ben Jack, who was the grandson of Captain Jack of Friendly Cove. According to the "Out of the Mist" catalogue (Royal BC Museum exhibition) this mask was made by Max Savey’s late grandfather. Captain Jack was thought to have owned them around 1905.
