Description

Orange damask haori (羽織) or jacket/overcoat. The damask is woven with a floral and leaf motif. There is a wide band around the neck and down the centre opening. There are yellow string ties on the inside of the centre opening. The short, wide sleeves have an opening under the arms. The decorated lining called gaku’ura (額裏) is cream silk and decorated with a multicoloured floral motifs.

History Of Use

Haori (羽織) is a formal jacket worn over kimono. In the past, haori was worn as an overcoat only by men, but now worn by both men and women. Decorated linings called gaku’ura (額裏) are usually used just for men’s haori.
