Description

Multi-coloured leggings or gaiters, knitted in heavy sheep's wool, detailed with various striped designs. The top and bottom of the gaiters are solid dark green. The first stripe is fuchsia with a black, outlined, lozenge pattern. Followed are cream birds on a red ground, purple women on an orange ground, green diagonal stripes on a yellow ground, cream horses on a burgundy ground, brown zigzags on a pink ground, ending with a solid thin orange stripe. Part a is stuffed with a worn out sock and stitched with cream wool to the outside of the gaiter.

Narrative

The Pujllay dancers wear these gaiters between their knees and ankles, using the drawstring to hold them up just below the knees.
