Description

Part (a) Flared oval coiled basket (bifurcated stitches) with foot and exaggerated domed lid, part (b), with handle at centre. Fully imbricated in tule grass with designs extending from lid to body, in diamonds on short sides outlined in red cherry bark, tule grass with dark cherry bark center; on long sides is a large square, outlined in black cherry bark, with red cherry bark rectangles at each corner also outlined in dark cherry bark. Top of lid has "cluster of flies" checkerboard motif in red and dark cherry bark. Corners of lid have vertical bands of dark cherry bark. Coiled handle with cherry bark beading. Foot has two rows of beading in tule grass, which suggests this basket may have been made by a basket maker from Spuzzum, B.C.
