Priest's Headdress Item Number: Edz1504 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Headdress with embroidery and long blue ties. The headdress is made of seven pieces sewn together, creating an outer scalloped edge. The five centre pieces have a seated figure (Buddha?), differing only in colour. The two end pieces have cloud and sun motifs. The back lining is dark blue fabric.

Iconographic Meaning

The Five Dhyani Buddhas are represented on the crown: Vairochana, Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi.
