Description

Small brown pants with thin black stripes. The pants have a front and back waistband, separated at the sides by a deep slit. One waistband is larger than the other, both are stiffened with long ties extending from each end. The full pant legs are pleated into the waistbands. Basting stitches are still visible. The inside is lined with dark blue cotton.

Specific Techniques

Main body of garment constructed from resist-dyed (kasuri or ikat) cotton fabric. Fabric woven from resist-dyed warp and weft threads (the technique is specifically known as "tate-yoko gasuri"). The fabric has been resist-dyed with indigo dye and woven in a balanced plain weave. The garment has been constructed from (approximately) 30cm wide woven panels. Garment assembled with hand-stitching throughout.
