Textile Item Number: 1013/1 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Woven textile with designs. The rectangular textile is cut on three sides and hemmed on one. The design has a five-toed dragon surrounded by cloud, fire, pearl, bat, coral, peach, narcissus, mountain and wave motifs in red, white, blue and green on brown ground. The back is unlined.

History Of Use

The five-toed dragon and dark yellow/gold colour indicates this textile was likely taken from a garment worn by someone in the immediate circle of the emperor. Possibly from the 18th century.
