Dark brown bulbous wooden bottle with tapered neck. Linked chain attaches to neck of bottle. Hide lid on top.
Narrative
Collected by Peter Clough while in he was in Africa to serve in the Boer War, 1898-1902. The book ‘The Akikuyu of British East Africa’ contains examples of similar snuff bottles on page 24, plate IX. Unclear if the bottle was collected in South Africa or East Africa.
