Description

Mask that has been carved on a forward slant, giving it an angular appearance. The mask is painted white with pursed red lips, a hooked nose with red nostrils, and semi-circular eyes. Two half crescents raised on each side of cheeks are painted black. Tufts of cedar bark fringe are attached at the sides and longer strands of cedar bark extend down the back of the mask below the chin. Off-white feathers protrude upwards from the top of the head.

History Of Use

Stump-of-the-Woods mask. Appears third in atłaamł dance, as a tree stump, and is followed by the "dumb" mask (C. George, 1966).
