Description

Wooden panel cutout in the form of Sisiutl with a central horned figure and two serpent heads on the ends, each with a protruding tongue. The figure is painted black, white, red and green with stylized designs. Made of pieces of wood nailed together. Parts a-c are the body of the sisiutl, parts d-e are the horns on each of the serpents heads, while parts g-h are the protruding tongues.

Iconographic Meaning

Represents double-headed serpent, Sisiutl. Treasure, dlugwe', of Tuxwit dancer, which grows out of the ground (M. Martin, 1951).
